Stride privacy policy
Short version: your runs live on your phone. Nothing leaves it unless you sign in to back them up, and you can delete everything at any time.
Who we are
Stride (Android package in.moops.stride) is made by Moops Design, a design and software studio with its registered office at 5, Civil Lines, Sagar, Madhya Pradesh 470001, India. In this policy, "we" means Moops Design. Questions, requests and complaints: info@moops.in.
Stride is available on Android today. The iOS version will follow this same policy.
The summary
- No account needed. You can track runs without signing in. Then everything stays on your phone.
- Signing in is optional and only backs up and syncs your runs and profile between your devices.
- No ads, no advertising IDs, no selling or renting of data. We do not use your data for marketing.
- Location is used only while you are tracking a run or walk.
- You can delete everything: single runs, or your whole account and its data, from inside the app.
What the app stores on your phone
Stride keeps its data in a private database on your device that other apps cannot read:
- Your runs and walks: type (run or walk), start and end time, distance, duration, average pace, an estimate of calories, step count, per-kilometre (or per-mile) splits and the GPS route.
- Your profile (all optional, from onboarding and settings): goal, experience level, gender, age, height, weight, activity level and preferred units (km or miles). Height and weight are used to estimate calories and show your body mass index.
- Progress: streaks, badges and which celebrations you have already seen.
- Settings: theme and similar preferences.
When you share a run, Stride makes a summary image and hands it to the app you choose. That image is saved in the app's temporary folder and removed when you sign out or delete your account.
Location and activity
- Precise location is used only while you are tracking a run or walk, to measure distance and pace and draw your route.
- Location in the background: so tracking keeps going when your screen is locked or you switch apps, Stride runs a foreground service with a visible notification for as long as a run is in progress. It stops when you finish the run. Stride does not collect location at any other time.
- Physical activity (the step counter) is read during a run to count your steps.
- The home screen map shows where you are before you start. To draw it, the map pictures (tiles) for your area are downloaded from MapTiler. Like any website, MapTiler sees the request, which includes your IP address and the map area being shown. Your runs and routes are never sent to MapTiler.
If you sign in
Signing in is only for backup and sync. You can sign in with Google or with an email address and password, through Firebase Authentication (Google). Firebase stores your email address and a user ID, and for Google sign-in, your name and profile picture as given by Google. We never see your password.
Once you are signed in, your profile and runs (the same fields listed above) are copied to Cloud Firestore, Google's cloud database, and synced with your other devices. Our security rules let each account read and write only its own data, and only in the exact shape the app produces. When you delete a run, a small deletion marker (the run's ID and the time) is kept so your other devices delete it too.
Crash reports and app safety
- Crash reports: the store version of Stride uses Firebase Crashlytics. If the app crashes, it sends a technical report: what went wrong in the code, your device model, Android version, app version and an installation ID. Crash reports do not include your runs, routes or profile. Firebase keeps them for 90 days.
- App Check: to stop fake apps from using our cloud database, Stride asks Google Play Integrity to confirm that requests come from the genuine app on a genuine device.
Who we share data with
Only the services above, and only to run the app: Google (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Crashlytics, Play Integrity) and MapTiler (map tiles). They process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy terms, and may store it on servers outside India. We do not sell, rent or trade your data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We may disclose data only if the law requires it.
All data sent over the internet is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
How long we keep data
- On your phone: until you delete it. Deleting a run removes it (you can undo for a moment). Signing out removes all Stride data from that phone. Uninstalling the app removes it too.
- In the cloud: for as long as you have an account. Deleting your account deletes your runs, profile and account straight away.
- Crash reports: 90 days.
Deleting your account and data
In the app: tap your Moop at the top right of the home screen, then Account → Delete account. Stride confirms it's you, then permanently deletes your runs and profile from the cloud, your account, and all Stride data on that phone. If you no longer have the app, email us. Full steps: delete your Stride account.
Your choices and rights
- Use Stride without an account, so nothing leaves your phone.
- See and change your profile in the app at any time, and turn location permission off in Android settings (tracking needs it, the rest of the app does not).
- Ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it or to delete it, by emailing info@moops.in. We reply within 30 days. Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can also raise a grievance with us at the same address.
Children
Stride is not made for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If the app starts using data in a new way, we will update this page and its date before the new version reaches you. For important changes we will also tell you in the app.
